The cave contains cheese, livestock, and the promise of a host. insists on waiting. When the owner returns, the doorway disappears behind a stone no man can move.
A welcome reversed
asks to respect strangers under ’s protection. The dismisses that claim and eats two of the visitors. Odysseus considers killing him, then recognizes the trap: without the giant, no one can roll away the entrance stone. The problem requires a living enemy. Their host’s violation of hospitality has turned shelter into confinement, and the captain’s earlier insistence on meeting him has exposed the crew to death.
A name made into a weapon
The prisoners prepare a wooden stake while tends his flock. later gives him powerful wine and says his name is Nobody. When the drunken sleeps, the men drive the heated stake into his single eye. Other Cyclopes come at his cries, but the name spoils his appeal: he reports that Nobody is attacking him. They leave him to what sounds like an affliction sent by the gods.
Beneath the sheep

The identity that wins the hero glory also gives his enemy the information needed to pursue him.
