About Elysium and our sources.
Elysium is an independent visual encyclopedia of Greek mythology. It brings an interactive family atlas, illustrated profiles, and original retellings together so you can move from one name to the stories and relationships around it.
What this edition covers
The current edition contains 121 profiles of gods, heroes, mortals, , and creatures, plus 33 original myth retellings. The 31 figures in the illustrated divine overview also have three additional short readings each. This is a growing reference collection, not a claim to contain every name in every ancient tradition.
Sources and competing traditions
Profiles and stories identify ancient works and link to translations or collections of passages, principally through the Theoi Project. The family atlas follows where possible. Other and interpretations are identified in the reading notes rather than silently combined into one account. Retellings are modern prose, not quotations from the ancient texts.
The artwork
The portraits and themed collections are modern AI-created interpretations inspired by mythology. Profiles without illustrated portraits use clearly labeled symbolic emblems. These images do not document surviving statues, frescoes, or museum objects. When a reading discusses an ancient depiction, follow its citation to distinguish the historical evidence from the site’s illustrations.
How to explore and check a claim
Begin with the family atlas or the figure directory. Each profile connects its overview to related stories, a family diagram, and ancient sources. Underlined terms open short reading previews. Use the source references to examine an account in context, especially when a retelling feels unfamiliar or conflicts with another version you know.
Analytics and your saved collection
We use Google Analytics with analytics and advertising cookie storage disabled. Google receives cookieless measurements of public page visits and technical request information. Our page-view events omit URL queries and fragments. Your saved collection and design preferences stay in this browser; we do not send them as analytics events.
